Numerous types of butterflies will find nectar in the annual and perennial flowers found in the Monarch Butterfly Mixture. This mixture contains nine plant types that serve as food for many different butterfly species’ caterpillars. The following flowers are included in this mix: Black-Eyed Susan, Butterfly Milkweed, Cosmos, Godetia, New England Aster, Pincushion Flower, Purple Coneflower, Shasta Daisy, Siberian Wallflower, Sweet Alyssum, Sweet William Pinks, and Zinnia. Sowing rate: 20g per 100 sq ft.
Planting tip: Make sure the field or bed area is weed-free. Distribute the mixture evenly throughout the area. To promote adequate seed-to-soil contact, lightly rake seeds and gently press them into the soil. The seed should be no more than 1/8″ deep. Keep the area wet to promote germination. Plant in the late spring, early summer, or late fall. Wait until the soil °T is too low to allow seed germination (below 4.4ºC) before planting in the fall.
