Probably the most popular of our native wildflowers. Plants form a medium to tall clump of coarse dark-green leaves, by midsummer bearing large daisy flowers with mauve-purple to rose-pink petals surrounding an orange-brown central cone. Petals often droop down in an attractive way. Removing faded flowers regularly will greatly increase the flowering period. Seedheads have good winter interest. Outstanding for cutting. Attractive to butterflies. Plants may be easily divided in early spring. Any seedlings that appear can also be moved at that time.
