A perennial herb native to the Mediterranean region, renowned for its robust, aromatic flavor that enhances a variety of dishes, particularly in Italian cuisine. The plants produce small, pink to purple flowers that attract pollinators. Its leaves are commonly used fresh or dried to add a pungent taste to tomato sauce, meats, and pizza. .

Far from: Garlic or onions if there are thrips in the garden.
Planting tip: Seed stratification is required for 1-2 weeks. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil, make sure not to bury them. The seed requires light to germinate. Sow seeds in flat 8-10 weeks before the last frost.
Harvesting tip: Harvest when young and tender to eat. Cut the entire plant when coming to bloom just 2” above ground. The plant can be cut 3-5 times during the season.
Storage tip: Keep in a plastic bag in the vegetable section of the fridge for up to 3 days.
