After bloom finishes, trim plant back and it will grow and bloom again. When in full bloom it will stop growing. The flowers have to fall off first before new shoots will appear. Soak the soil of the bougainvillea thoroughly and then let it dry out. Use a general purpose plant food in a 20-20-20- or 15-30-15 combination and follow the instructions on the label. Bougainvillea does not overwinter outside in the Canadian winter. The plant can be brought indoors before first frost.
