Big Bluestem is a native grass and was once a dominate feature on the North American prairie and is sometimes referred to as “Monarch of the Prairie”. This selection forms a tall, upright clump of narrow, green foliage with red tips. Foliage turns burgundy to scarlet by fall. Fall seed heads are ‘turkey-foot’ shaped and also in shades of red. Excellent planted in mixed-perennial, fall-blooming borders, where a height is desired. This native ornamental grass is tough like the species. Introduced by Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. USPP#26283: unlicensed propagation prohibited.
