Heirloom kale variety. It is an old descendent of Mediterranean kale. Often called Dinosaur Kale due to its large size and distinctive, prehistoric look. Long, dark green leaves shoot from the central stem like ostrich plumes. Frost hardy. Can be grown up to 3’ tall
Companion plants: Potato, Beets, Lettuce, Chard, Peas, Alliums, Radish, Spinach, Celery, Cucumber, Aromatic herbs.
Far from: Tomato, Strawberry, Grape, Rue.
Planting tip: Soaking in warm water for up to 12H is recommended for improved germination. Direct sow as soon as the soil can be worked. It can be started indoors 4 weeks before the planting date. For fall plantings sow 2 months before first expected frost.
Harvesting tip: Harvest at the desired size. Flavor sweetens with light frost.
Storage tip: Cooling in water after harvest recommended. It can be stored in the refrigerator for a few weeks.
